When I was a Christian it never quite dawned (pun intended) on me that there were several days and evenings without a sun to make actual days and evenings.

Well, one supposes that when Yahweh said "let there be light" and there was light, that meant the sun, and because there was light, then darkness, to differentiate day and night, it makes sense to be day and night, right? So - a day. No real reason to question it, was there? How do you figure there was no sun? I'm interested to see where you are going with this?

I've heard them called, "creative periods". "Day" is just easier to say in English, I guess.

@Double U: It isn't just English. The Biblical Hebrew word used is yowm, which means "day".

But then again, yowm could also mean an abstract time period.

But then again, the bible specifically says that the sun set and rose in between each day, indicating a 24-hour time period.

But then again, that could just be an allegory for a very long time period.

But then again...
