Sarai, now angry at Abram for turning Hagar against her, says that God will pass judgment over them, and God will decide who is right and who is wrong. I guess it never occurred to her that they're both wrong. Abram, not wanting to have God's judgment over his head (or his wife pissed off at him), tells Sarai to just go ahead and deal with Hagar anyway that she chooses. This goes against the teachings of the bible which says that slave wives should be treated just as well as non-slave wives (Exodus 21:10).

So, in Genesis 16:6, Sarai goes from being a little jealous to crazy Fatal Attraction scary, and beats Hagar so severely that she runs away.

However, the bible uses its euphemistic passive language to soften up the beating. Instead of saying that Sarai, "beat Hagar into a bloody mess trying to force her to have a miscarriage," we learn that Sarai, "dealt hardly with her." Some of the more recent translations are slightly more graphic and say, "Sarai treated Hagar so harshly that she finally ran away," but even that doesn't do it justice. A few slaps in the face and some verbal abuse wouldn't make a slave run away and give up the only home she had left in the world (pathetic as it may be).

Is that a Louisville Slugger? o-o Also, is there any reason why the "sleeping-bag" looks like a purple penis?

Wow ... this is one seriously fucked up family! And to think Abram is one of the god chosen ones...
But I still can't decide whether this god is plain evil or just a severely mentaly challenged person/entity (to put it in gentle words).

On a side note - we're all satan's slaves according to today's fail on failblog :D

Uncle Jellyfish: Although it's not legible, the original graphic actually says, "Canaanville Slugger".

just me: Satan just loves people who think for themselves. It allows him to... well nothing, because they're thinking for themselves.

@just me: It's actually quite funny...the word "heresy" means "to choose," or "to think freely."

Hmmmm. I keep thinking maybe god is just a little kid playing with ants so many things point to god being some sort of child doing as it pleases.

Well, it's about time Hagar got some sense into her. Although, I really don't see any reason for Hagar just to have rebelled and attacked Sarai, then took a weapon & killed her enslavers. It's not like anyone would know....

Oh well, I guess that's The Bible for you: Always assuming everyone is an idiot. Fictional or not.

Ray, wouldn't God know? you know, with his all seeing all hearing abilities, that Hagar brutally murdered her captives? and with his "forgiveness" he will enslave yet another generation of kind-of-innocent people.

Well, if Hagar did take the bat and beat several rain-checks into them, would she be rewarded for the murder or punished for ending a pair of slavers?
