Numbers 16:1-3 is D-U-M, dum! Thereís really not much more to say about it. God just got done telling the Israelites that they were horrible people. He just cursed them with 40 years of wandering in the desert. He just abandoned them on the battle field, letting countless men be slaughtered. He just got done punishing people for having the audacity of wanting to be treated equally with Godís elect. This wasnít generations ago, this wasnít years ago, this was like a few minutes ago! According to genealogies, Korah, Dathan, and Abiram are all old enough to have been slaves in Egypt, which means that they have seen each of Godís temper tantrums, and they know precisely what happens when anyone confronts Moses about ďunfairness.Ē
But no, Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, who are explained as being accompanied by 250 well-renowned men of the community, call out Moses. They say that every man among them is holy and each has the favor of the Lord, so why is it Moses gets to boss them all around?
Oh yes, there's also a fourth character mentioned named On, but he is only mentioned once, possibly as a parent of one of these three men, but it's difficult to tell from the translation.
Letís play a game! Letís predict whatís going to happen to these rabble-rousers! Whoever guesses correctly wins a free Gideonís Bible, which can be picked up at your nearest motel.
